About DMRTI

HISTORY

The Joint Medical Readiness Training Center (JMRTC) preceded DMRTI and was responsible for training thousands of medical department officers. However, reengineering JMRTC’s medical readiness training efforts with an expanded scope and mission led to the establishment of DMRTI. In July 1997, JMRTC was integrated into DMRTI, forming one organization. DMRTI executes its mission under the direction and guidance of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Force Health Protection and Readiness (DASD/HA FH&R) and the Force Health Protection Council (FHPC).

Basic Course Information

The Homeland Security Medical Professionals Course (HLSMPC) is designed to prepare senior medical department officers (04-06) to respond, as part of the National Response Plan (NRP), to the challenges and complexities of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, High-Yield Explosives (CBRNE) event or natural disaster in the United States and its territories.

The Emergency War Surgey Course (EWSC) is a three-day course for surgeons and non-surgeon physicians deploying to a position where they will be treating battlefield trauma by teaching the Emergency War Surgery Handbook with an emphasis on live tissue and cadavar lab.
